Research from the Suranaree University of Technology in Thailand found that star apple (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) has great potential as a natural remedy for diabetes. This study, published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, looked at the antidiabetic effects of bark extracts of star apple on mice.
The results of the study showed that star apple has potent antioxidant and antidiabetic activity. Its ability to reduce blood sugar levels was attributed to enhanced glucose uptake by the muscles and the inhibition of alpha-glucosidase activity. Overall, these results prove that star apple can be used as an alternative treatment for diabetes.
